Nine feet is not very hard to imagine. If a standard ruler is one foot long, nine of those will make nine feet. However, it is fun to consider common things that are 9 feet long.

Many animals fall within the 8 to 9 feet range, and it is interesting to find out which ones they are. Consider this list of things that are 9 feet long.

1. A Male ostrich

Ostriches tower over other birds, with male ostriches growing to 9 feet tall. They can sprint faster than 45 miles an hour with their long, muscular legs, especially when they are spooked. Also, their 6.6-foot wingspan helps them maintain balance while running from predators.

2. A Boa Constrictor

One of the fascinating things about boa constrictors is that they give birth to live babies. The eggs stay inside the mother long enough to hatch, and then she gives birth to little boa constrictors. Boa constrictors grow to between 8 and 13 feet long. The most common length, however, is nine feet.

3. A Patio Umbrella

The world’s largest Christmas tree was 221 feet tall. It was a fresh-cut Christmas tree that was erected at the Northgate shopping center in DC in 1950. Today, there are different heights of trees depending on your ceiling height. For example, for high ceilings, 9-foot-tall trees are best.

5. A Hammock

Americans love to supersize everything, even hammocks. There is a humongous hammock in North Carolina that can hold up to 8000 pounds. However, a standard hammock measures 9 feet in length and can hold about 250 pounds.

6. An Area Rug

Did you know that in some cultures, rugs were used as saddles? Then when the horses died, they were buried together with their rug saddles as a medal of honor.

Area rugs are much smaller than floor carpets as they only measure about 9 feet in length. However, you can choose larger or smaller rugs.

7. An Elephant

A single elephant can weigh up to 6800 kilograms. This is the weight of approximately 37 adult males weighing 82 kilos.

Elephants can also grow as tall as 13 feet which is taller than the body height of an adult giraffe. However, the average height of elephants is between 8 and 9 feet.

8. The Tallest Man

The Tallest Man in the world was 8 feet 11 inches tall, an inch from 9 feet. His unusual growth was a result of a tumor that affected his pituitary gland, causing gigantism. Even though he died in 1940 at the young age of 22, he holds the Guinness World Record for the Tallest man ever.

9. An Alligator

Alligators don’t get to a point where they stop growing. They continue growing long, with males reaching between 9 and 10 feet long. Old male alligators can grow up to 15 feet long and could weigh 1000 pounds. A fun fact about alligators is that they go through about 2000 feet in their lifetime.

10. A Male Tiger

12. 27 Yoga Blocks

There have been different types and sizes of yoga clocks through the years. One was shaped like an egg, and another was made of fabric, yet another measures 6.5 inches in thickness. 13. Two 60-inch TVs

The largest TV screen in the world today is a 325-inch monster screen by LG. You would think that a 60-inch TV would measure 60 inches, but that is not the case. A 60-inch TV measures about 52 inches in length. Two such TVs would then add up to 104 inches, approximately 9 feet.

Finally, there are lots of things that are about 9 feet long. These are just some of the common ones you can easily relate to or picture. Who knew that a hammock is the same length as a fully grown male tiger?
